• Bear Claw Stud Technology - We have formed a wedge-formed claw-like area in front of the stud. This bear claw preload and pretension the rubber compound in front of the stud during braking situations and keep the stud longer in optimal position if compared to conventional ways to fasten studs to tires.
• Square Stud Plus - The stud used on the Hakkapeliitta 5 SUV is a new evolution version of Nokian's patented square stud. The hard metal pin is square-shaped like earlier generations but now also has the square shape on the upper body of the stud. This new body shape improves the locking of the stud inside the tread block. The benefit from better stud fastening is better grip and longer duration of studs in the long run.
• Stabilization Zone - Special stabilization zone between shoulder blocks to improve bare road stability and also lateral grip as shoulder blocks stay on optimal angle even under heavy loads.
• Polished Main Grooves - Snow and slush come easily off the tire along the smooth and shiny grooves. Thanks to the tread pattern, the tire cleans easily and runs effortlessly in deep snow and slush on even the most challenging roads.
• Completely HA-free tire - Only purified low-aromatic oils have been used in the production of this tire. Nokian Tires has succeeded in becoming the world’s first tire manufacturer to produce a clean tire with excellent wet grip and other safety properties.
• Stud Break-In Indicators - Calm and careful driving is recommended during the first 300 miles: avoid hard braking and acceleration, as well as abrupt maneuvers. All studs are encircled by a run-in indicator that fades at the end of the break-in period.
• Information Field - The tire’s information field can be used to mark the correct inflation pressure and the tire’s place on the car during the storage season.
• Driving Safety Indicator, DSI - The driving safety indicator on the center rib of the tire indicates groove depth in millimeters. The numbers fade one at the time as the tire wears down.
• The Mud Stopper - The mud stopper prevents damage to the tire by stopping dirt and other objects from getting caught between the tire and the rim. Available in 15" and bigger sizes.
• The Rim Guard - The sturdy rib on the rim area protects the rim against knocks and scratches. Not available in all sizes.
